Five Northern Cree Nations—York Factory First Nation, Tataskweyak Cree Nation, Fox Lake Cree Nation, Shamattawa First Nation, and War Lake First Nation have reunited to protect their ancestral lands through the Kitaskeenan Kaweekanawaynichikatek initiative, meaning "our land we want to protect."
