Send a letter to urge NB government for strong protected areas!

The provincial government has promised to protect at least 15% of the province for nature. But they are under heavy pressure from industry to weaken this protection and make future protected areas smaller and fewer.

We need YOUR help to make sure this important promise is kept. Join CPAWS NB’s call for strong protected areas in New Brunswick.

We have a responsibility to protect the places that sustain us. We need you to show the government you want them to act now, to safeguard the wild spaces and wildlife our communities rely on.

When surveyed, a full two-thirds of New Brunswickers want the provincial government to set new targets to protect 30% of NB’s lands and waters by 2030 — we know that people here care deeply about nature.

Meaningful conservation takes leadership, hard work, and real commitment to keep NB’s natural life-support systems intact, with strong legal protection for nature and climate resilience. Because …. when nature thrives, so do we!

Take action now by sending this letter to show the provincial government that you want nature to be strongly protected from industrial development. They need to hear from you at this moment!

Thank you for committing to increase protected areas to 15% of the province by 2027, and to make a plan to reach 30% by 2030. As a New Brunswicker, I’m counting on you to ensure these targets are met with strong protected areas, on time!  
 
Nature provides priceless services that support our health and well-being, our communities and our economy. Forests and wetlands clean our air, store carbon and protect our farms and homes from floods, droughts and storms.  
 
I agree with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society - NB Chapter that conserving 30% of New Brunswick’s lands and waters should: 
-protect important wildlife habitats, and the forests and wetlands that produce clean and plentiful drinking water; 
-protect the peat bogs, saltmarshes and cold-water streams that help curb the impacts of climate change; and 
-advance reconciliation by supporting Indigenous-led stewardship. 
 
I urge you to make good on your promises and meet the targets by: 
-Establishing new protected areas on 15% of the province, with strong permanent protections for nature, free from industrial development; and, 
-Publishing a clear roadmap to show how NB will protect 30% by 2030 to safeguard New Brunswick’s lakes, rivers, forests and wetlands to protect us now, and for future generations.  
 
When nature thrives, so do New Brunswickers, and our families.
